One of the best vacation destinations in the United States is a trip that takes in the six New England states. Each state has its own brand of beauty. And each offers an array of breathtaking things to do and see. The region has beautiful beaches, striking mountains, great food, and incomparable history. With this in mind, let’s travel state by state and take a look at some things you will not want to miss. The smallest of all of the states is Rhode Island. Don’t let this fool you. One trip to Newport and you will wonder why you have never visited here before. You’ll see a magnificent coastline and an unbelievable collection of ocean view mansions. Before you leave, be sure to treat yourself to a few clam cakes and New England style clam chowder.Connecticut, or the “Nutmeg State”, has a wide variety of things for the visitor to do. If you enjoy the beach, you can take in Lyme Beach as well many other beaches. For literature buffs, there is Mark Twain’s home to visit. It was here that he brought to life two of his most beloved characters, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. The problem with New Hampshire is trying to fit in all of its possibilities. If you are there during the fall, you will be greeted with gorgeous foliage up and down the state. During the summer you won’t want to miss Seabrook and Rye. Both have terrific beaches. The White Mountains are great for hikers, skiers, and sight-seers. If you have a bit of extra time, it is worth a visit to see one of America’s most beautiful colleges, Dartmouth. If history is your passion, then you probably would like to spend some time in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the home of John and Samuel Adams, the Old North Church, and Bunker Hill. Stops at Lexington and Concord will give you more of a sense of America’s early heritage. Of course, you will not want to miss Cape Cod. Baseball fans might want to take in a game at beautiful Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox.Vermont is the only New England state without a coastline. It more than makes up for this with rolling hills, verdant mountains, and quaint villages. Like New Hampshire, its trees come ablaze during autumn. Don’t forget to sample some of the country’s best cheddar cheese and maple syrup.Lighthouses, charming fishing towns, and rocky beaches all help define the appeal of Maine. One of the most popular spots for tourists is Ogunquit. It is home to artists, great lobster, and small specialty shops. Nearby Perkins Cove, is worth the travel time to visit.
