Outdoor Adventure Travel to India’s Irresistible Hill Stations

India’s hill stations, famed for their stunning scenery and cool air, were formed by the British during their colonial rule. Located at an altitude ranging between 1000m-2500m, these towns, formally known as hill stations, are elevated from their adjacent valleys and plains, thus affording a refuge from India’s sweltering summer heat. Beyond stunning scenery, lush green hills and snow-capped peaks, these retreats, found throughout India, offer a host of outdoor adventure travel activities for families: Mountaineering, trekking, kayaking, skiing, mountain biking, climbing and paragliding are only some of the adventures on offer.
Most of India’s hill stations are located in the north. Perched on the hilltops at the foothills of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh state, Shimla, the state’s capital, and Manali are among the most popular hill stations. Rediscovered and developed by the British since 1819, Shimla, carved on a mountain top at a height of 2196 m is breathtaking. With its colonial charm, it cool mountain breezes and lush pine forests, Shimla is the “queen of hill stations” and the summer capital of British India. Its snow-capped peaks, beautiful valleys, cascading waterfalls and lovely lakes make it magical. The region is dotted with temples and religious sites, among them St. Michael’s cathedral, once considered India’s finest, and a masterpiece of stained glass construction. Not far, Narkanda offers amazing skiing slopes and other adventure activities in the region include trekking, river rafting, heli-skiing and fishing.
Lively Manali is the starting point for the main overland artery to remote Ladakh, or “Little Tibet”, renowned for its beauty. Spread along the banks of the Beas River, Manali is a place of snow-shrouded mountains, deep gorges and religious pilgrimages. The area is punctuated by Hindu temples, Buddhist monasteries and bright gompas. Cascading waterfalls, sulfur springs and the Arjun Cave are among Manali’s highlights, and adventure pursuits include skiing throughout the year, as well as mountaineering, trekking and kayaking. For a more serene setting, lovely Old Manali or Vashisht are the places to stay.
Chamba, the charming capital of its eponymous district is well off the beaten path. Its claim to fame lies in its temples and its vivid festivals – the annual harvest festival, Minjar, held in July and the Sui Mata festival, honoring the memory of a princess, held in April. Founded in 920 AD, Chamba survived for nearly 1000 years until it fell to the British in 1845. Perched on a ledge above the Ravi River, Chamba is well-known for its well-defined snow ranges where trekking is popular.
Situated amidst a barren desertscape, Mount Abu is the only hill station in the state of Rajasthan. This picturesque town is a green oasis with a stunning collection of exquisite Dilwara Jain temples, renowned for their architectural beauty and dating to the 11th century. Situated on the highest peak of the Aravalli range, Mount Abu is considered a holy place and is a center for religious pilgrimages. Once the retreat for royals and later for the British, Mount Abu abounds with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, lush green forests and beautifully landscaped gardens. The hill station is home to a wildlife sanctuary housing over 800 species of plants and a wide variety of wildlife, including leopard, sloth bear, wild boar, and samhar and jungle cat.
The numerous hill stations of North India offer the perfect off-the-beaten-path retreat for adventure travel holidays, relaxation and just sharing quality time with family and friends when traveling in India.

Take My Advice For Happy Overseas Adventure Travel
September 20, 2012 by admin

Article by Robert Marriott
If you are thinking about overseas adventure travel here are some ideas to ensure your plans go off without a problem, you should find the recommendations in this article very helpful. They’re in no distinct order.
Adventure holidays for singles: As a woman traveling on your own, make sure that the clothing you take with you is simple and modest. Flashy clothing, or even clothing which you may think isn’t revealing may appear provocative or offensive in some cultures. When you arrive at your destination, take your cue in dressing from the locals and buy clothes that can help you blend in.This also applies to men.
When driving a long distance, make sure you stop and rest and stretch out from time to time so you do not get sleepy or cramped. It is very important to stay sharp while driving, therefore stop every couple of hours and take a break. Stretch your legs, use the lavatory, have a snack or even close your eyes and have a quick catnap. Then you can continue your trip once you’re refreshed.
You need to take any chance to avoid dealing with customer services at the airlines. Airlines are starting to charge fees for pretty much anything. Charges for checking your bag at the airport instead of online, handling fees, and some are even thinking about charging for using the bathroom on the flight. You can’t avoid the latter if it happens, but anything else that it is possible to take care of, without a human to help you, should be done.
When you are traveling always let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll come back. If you are gone for a longer time than planned follow up with that person. This simple action is a valuable safety measure. The person can follow-up if you don’t return on schedule. They will also know how to contact you if an emergency comes up back home.
It is important that you always try to plan your adventure holidays as far ahead of time as you possibly can. Booking between January and March for summer travel is ideal. By locking in your flight dates and tours or activities in advance, you help ensure that you will get the lowest price possible.
To make shopping while on vacation stress-free, be sure you let your credit card company or bank know that you are going away. You should also let them know where you are going. Many credit card companies will flag or even suspend a card if suspicious activities occur, so to avoid uncomfortable denials make sure to check in with your credit card company before and afteryour trip.
Family adventure holidays
If you intend to go on a family trip, especially in the summer, do not wait until the last minute to purchase your airline tickets. If you do, you could find that your whole group may not be able to sit with each other. Obtaining your flight tickets early, will also save you some cash that you can use when you reach your destination.
While planning your stops while on a trip, it is a good option to adopt a system called “stop card”. A stop card will allow each family member to choose one spot that they would like to take a look at. This will help avoid making many stops through your trip, that will save you time.
When traveling, it’s a good idea to bring walkie talkies. Walkie talkies will help you communicate with other members of the family while you split up at a rest stop. Many areas have spots that have no mobile signal and anyway, using your mobiles abroad is really costly .You can use your walkie talkie rather than a phone if you find yourself in one of these places.
With so many resources available for holidaymakers, there is no reason to let your impending trip leave you stressed out and anxious and we hope this article goes some way to helping you have trouble free adventure holidays.

Best Activities For Adventure Travels

Article by Diane Lamanna
People that like adventure will definitely enjoy adventure travels which can be different to say the least! There are many people that like to travel to places that they feel safe, whereas others like a little adventure when they go somewhere new. There are great spots for adventure travel all over the world, you just have to know where to look. The following tips and strategies can help you plan your adventure travels starting today.
You may consider a soothing, thoughtful ride on the back of a camel while going through the desert. The desert is so open and vast that it’s similar to the ocean, and spending some time there can give you a new perspective. Morocco is one particular place where you can take such a trip and travel via camel, just like the nomads, and sleep out under the sky. Another possibility that has a similar theme is horseback trek in Mongolia. This is a region where the folks that live there do not necessarily change with the times. Following a trek like this one, you will experience a whole new point of view.
If you are looking for a fascinating adventure, consider a trek through the Himalayan mountain range; the highest there is. You may think that this is only for elite mountain climbers, but this isn’t the case. Even though it is necessary to be in good shape for this type of experience, you would only take the trek that would meet your skill level. Because altitude sickness is a very real danger, you would be wise not to go too high on your first attempt. There are a lot of travel companies that can set you up with a trek in a variety of countries like China, Nepal or India. Also available for first time trekkers, are Asian countries that would give you a little experience prior to attempting the Himalayans.
Have you ever considered digging for buried treasure? This search is a fun and entertaining for a number of people. It’s possible to plan a trip that includes hunting for treasure, either underground or in the sea. You could maybe join a bunch of folks that enjoy the same hobby, or simply rely on your metal detector to aid your search. If you like to hunt or fish, you could mingle your treasure search along with one of these aspects. Figure out what places are more apt to be a source to find hidden treasures. ]
The only thing holding you back from your adventurous trip coming true is the inability to see it in your mind. You can pick any continent in the world and find a way to have an interesting and adventurous trip. This kind of travel doesn’t have to be expensive either, apart from the cost of getting there. We hope to have awakened your sense of adventure and you will get out and research the wide range of trips that are available.

Article by Henry Bell
Are you planning for a trip in UK or abroad, but is afraid of the unforeseen and unpredicted events that may take place during the trip, like fight cancellation, sudden illness or natural catastrophes. A simple fracture or a simple injury can cost you a fortune. Apart from health problems, you may lose an expensive item or your baggage; there may even be flight cancellation. To shield your travel from all these problems and to make your trip more pleasant, you should certainly purchase travel insurance
Travel insurance is an insurance purchased from a company to meet the expenses of a tour or tours taken by an individual either for the whole family or for him individually. Travel insurance covers the cost of personal accident, medical expenses, air ambulance, repatriation costs and all other expense that may arise as a result of loss, damage, injury, delay or inconvenience occurring to the client. This policy covers trip cancellation also.
Travel insurance covers the travel insurance deals for:
Single Trip Travel Insurance
Annual travel insurance
Ski/ winter sports Travel Insurance
Backpackers Travel Insurance
Adventure Travel Insurance
Business Travel Insurance
Single Trip Travel Insurance: It is basically for those who have plans to travel in UK or abroad for once in a year. It is totally flexible and easy to purchase.
Annual Travel Insurance: This type of insurance is sponsored for unlimited trips for a whole year. The couple and the family policies cover all people individually even if they are not traveling together.
Ski / Winter sports Travel Insurance: This type of insurance is provided for winter sports like skiing and snow boarding.
Backpackers Travel Insurance: This type of insurance is perfect for students who are planning long trips abroad or within Europe. The students who are planning to take a gap year can enjoy the full benefits of this policy. Even elder people up to the age of 45 can avail this insurance.
Business Travel Insurance: This is basically the insurance given while one is on a business trip.
Adventurous Travel Insurance: If one needs more than sitting in the beach for hours, then go for an adventurous travel abroad. But before that insure yourself with adventurous travel insurance.
There are certain pre-conditions that need to be fulfilled before your insurance company gives you travel insurance. To avail this insurance policy, one has to be a resident of UK, below the age of 70, should not be instructed by any doctor or medical supervisor not to travel in the next 12 months.
It is a very important task on your part to check all the details of the insurance company before buying travel insurance. Almost all the insurance companies now have websites of their own. So it is easier to shop around for you to search for the right insurance plan.

Five Essential Items For Gap Year Travel
September 11, 2012 by admin
Article by Harriet Williams
If you’re about to venture out into the big wide world and get your first taste of gap year travel, you’ll need to be prepared. Below you’ll find a list of five essential items that every gap year traveller should pack to make sure they have the experience of a lifetime!
5. A good guide book for where you’re going
As with any big travel adventure, planning properly is key. Your gap year travel will really get off on the right foot if you invest in a good guide book. There are lots of companies that produce these for every country in the world, so pop along to the travel section of your local bookshop and have a good rummage!
4. A first-aid kit
It may seem like common sense, but having a first-aid kit handy can be a real life-saver during your gap year travel. Even if you’re going to a big city with plenty of amenities, you just never know when you might be in need of a plaster – so it’s best to have one to hand!
3. A money belt
They might not be the most glamorous accessory, but money belts can be invaluable for gap year travel. They help you keep your money safe at all times, plus you’ll benefit from peace of mind and be able to spend more time enjoying the scenery!
2. A pre-paid telephone card
Gap year travel naturally involves a small amount of risk. In fact, it’s one of the reasons it can be so exciting! But the last thing you want is to find yourself in a strange city with no way to call home. In a situation like this, a pre-paid telephone card can really make a difference, so be sure to pick one up (you can even keep it in your money belt!).
1. A disposable camera (or two)
Whilst digital cameras might be all the rage these days, they’re not always the best option for gap year travel. They’re often an easy target for pickpockets, so do yourself (and those back home who want to see the photos) a favour by taking a few disposable ones instead. These cameras are low-cost and easily replaced, so you’ll feel confident taking them wherever your adventure may take you!
Just one last (and perhaps most important) piece of advice before you start your gap year adventure: don’t forget your toothbrush!

Family Adventure Travel Sailing the Turquoise Coast
September 8, 2012 by admin

Article by Sylvia Arad
Sailing the Turquoise Coast, Turkeys jagged azure blue southwest coastline was a family-friendly adventure that was like no other and surpassed all our expectations.
Our gulet, a traditional wooden Turkish yacht, was the most beautiful on the high seas with its mahogany wood grain hull and blue masts. We had chartered the six-cabin yacht for our extended family vacation. For 10 days, this was to be our home a luxurius, relaxing and adventurous way to see Turkey where there was plenty to do, both on-board and off.
Our yacht docked at small marinas, sheltered lagoons and hidden coves. We hiked the countryside and enjoyed the turquoise sea from secluded anchorage by swimming, kayaking, wind surfing and fishing. The mix of hikes, ancient ruins, legendary swims and water activities, and time to relax lazily on deck created an intimate family-friendly pace for adults, seniors and children alike. Discovering the regions coastal villages, some accessible only by boat, hiking in the pine forests and exploring Hellenic ruins, we gained an expansive vision of the land.
En route, at Olu Deniz, the stunning Blue Lagoon, a sheathe of calm blue waters captivated us. Off the beaten path, we hiked to ancient Lydae, with its tombs, Corinthian columns and basilica from Roman and Byzantine periods. We stopped at Dalyan, a sleepy fishing village whose beach is a breeding ground for Loggerhead Turtles, and took a side trip, kayaking on the Calbis River, where spectacular scenery and rock-cave tombs greeted us. At the secluded Orhaniye Bay, an ancient acropolis and the ruins of a medieval castle set the backdrop to the small eponymous village. Bencik Bay, a miniature fjord-like inlet, provided breathaking vists of limestone mountains dropping precipitously into the sea. Elsewhere pine forests stretched out hiding a wealth of golden beaches, deep gulfs and tiny offshore islands. Further on, we visited at the ancient city of Knidos, a sensational site of maritime trade. We moored at the citys ancient harbor just as Hellenic merchants would have done over two millennia ago, only to gaze in wonder at its monuments – rows of houses, a small theater and miles upon miles of fortifications. We looped through Gorkova Bay and visited the English Harbor, where Britain hid submarines during World War II, then Cleopatras Island and the quiet seaside village of Oren, with its appealing market.
On occasion, we slept outside on the gulets cushioned deck, dozing to the panorama of stars in the jet-black sky. Waking to the soft swish of gentle waves hitting the bow, we enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast of freshly prepared Turkish delights before greeting another wonder-filled day.
Off the magical coast of Turkey, we drank in the landscape to rediscover that every day is a journey of discovery. Having sailed the exquisite waters of the Turquoise coast, our family adventure had only begun.

Cultural Exchange Programs – Adventure You Can Experience
September 4, 2012 by admin
Article by Terry Galloway
When it comes to learning opportunities, the world is one of the best classrooms in which to be a student. Many people overlook travel as a way to learn due to the cost and the potential time missed in a traditional classroom. Cultural exchange programs offer students the opportunity to be a part of a global learning environment that, in conjunction with classroom training, is a great investment in your education and life. Participation in a student exchange program can become one of the richest experiences in life, providing the participant with learning and life experiences that could never be enjoyed within the confines of a traditional classroom. Here are a few of the benefits you can experience during participation in a student exchange program:
• Cultural Exchange Experience – Experiencing a foreign culture firsthand provides a range of learning opportunities you cannot get from a book or movie. Since you’ll be immersed in a different language and cultural environment your life will become infused with the customs of the people in that culture. The joys and challenges faced while living in another land ultimately enrich your knowledge-base like no other mode of learning can.
• Community Service Involvement – Community service is a wonderful aspect of exchange programs which presents the opportunity to do something for the local people without the expectation for receiving something in return. This aspect of an exchange program often presents students with their first opportunity to participate in community service. The rich experience of giving selflessly can lead to continued efforts in the homeland, as well as around the world.
• Adventure Travel – During an exchange program, participants have an opportunity to see things they may have only read about in books or seen in movies. The opportunity to walk in the footsteps of famous people from the past and see firsthand the buildings and structures learned about in history class is life changing. Adventure travel experiences often require participants to step beyond their comfort zones but, in the end, the process of doing so prepares them to work through challenges they will face throughout life.
Being part of cultural exchange programs presents once-in-a-lifetime experiences that can impact the participant for his or her entire life. The experience provides a broader view of the world, leading to a mindset that’s more global than local, resulting in the feeling of being a world citizen. Expanding your thinking with great experiences like these not only has a huge impact on your life but on the lives of those around you, from the exchange program participants and their families as well as your friends and family when you return.

Oceania Travel Guide for up to date, expert written destination guides to all countries in Oceania from East Nusa Tenggara to Flores. Including one of the most popular attractions in Nusa Tenggara the multi-colored crater lakes of Kelimutu are a beautiful and mysterious geological anomaly. Although they share the crest of the same volcano and are practically side-by-side, the lakes periodically change colors independently of each other. The volcanic lakes appear to be boiling as gases continue to escape from the volcano below. Fumarole activity below the surface causes the colors to range from red and brown to turquoise and green.
Batu Cermin Tours is a lot of times separate from the adventure world of caving. The former enjoys a tour on a lit boardwalk in a large group, while the latter prefers it “down and dirty”, hanging by a harness half way down a cliff. Sometimes, however, these two worlds can coexist. One prime example Batu Cermin cave and Cunca Wulang Canyon. The vast complex of caves is still explored by experienced speleologists while more accessible caves appeal and are explored by the more subdued traveller. Batu Cermin cave is set within an impressive prominent rock formation near Labuan Bajo. Through a hole in the cave, rays of light find their way into the cave’s inside walls where they perform a spectacular show of reflected sunlight. This fascinating effect is caused by some slick, mirror-like rock surfaces that reflect the light. Hence the cave’s name, Batu Cermin, which means ‘mirror rock’ in Indonesian. If you want to experience this visual delight in all its beauty, make sure to be there at the right time: depending on the time of year, the sunrays only hit the hole between 9 and 10am.
However, the cave is a lovely site not only during these morning hours, but at any time of the day. Batu Cermin lies in a fantastic natural environment with an excellent panoramic view over the mainland and the islands nearby. It is surrounded by forests where long-tailed monkeys and wild boars live. A ladder walkway leads you along the last meters to the cave, passing through a series of pre-chambers before entering the actual ‘mirror rock’ site. Inside the cave, colonies of bats go about their daily business. While bats are found in abundance, you have to be very lucky to see the local spiders, who, when approached, quickly scamper out of sight. Batu cermin Tours

Adventure Travel Wilderness And Hiking Trails Fees Continue To Rise
August 29, 2012 by admin
Article by Kellie Allen
Is adventure travel acquiring pricey for the household? The very good news for adventure travel and wilderness hiking trails is that the USA has a number of the most special and unbelievable spots to find out on earth. Our National, State Parks, Monuments and Wilderness Places are awesome, but for many years there have already been diminished variety of visitors. Numerous citizens have stated that a four-year program to improve national parks entrance fees to make them a lot more uniform may possibly discourage some Americans from going to their national parks this kind of because the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Zion and Yellowstone.
The National Parks have already been faced with a price range crisis. The parks are struggling to safeguard the historic, cultural and natural resources the parks were produced for. The parks are brief of funds for operating amenities, repairs to roads, bridges, trails and buildings. There was an 814 million dollar shortfall in 2006. There are nearly 400 areas of protection covered through the National Parks Service. Practically every single park has fewer complete time employees now than in 2001, whilst there were over 273,000,000 guests to the parks in 2005. The park service requirements much more funding to supply training, interpretive and for the security specifications of their guests. It is a time of controversy about park charges, latest plans for oil, gas and mineral exploration in our parks and obviously getting rid of the O’shaughnessy Dam to restore the Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite.
Not too long ago the federal government has moved to substitute the National Park Service’s annual pass with a new multi-agency pass. A lot of people believe that the fee increases are finding out of line. The park service raised entrance costs at 34 parks over the previous two many years and plans to increase them at yet another 124 parks in 2008 and 2009. At Glacier Nationwide Park in Montana and Joshua Tree Nationwide Park in California, the fees will go up twice, and beginning in 2011, park officials strategy to increase fees each and every 3 many years, depending on inflation. There is certainly a proposal to double entrance fees subsequent year at Crater Lake National Park, now per auto. Will it drive the neighborhood guests away? In 1997, once the park service started raising charges, the volume of nationwide parks visitors has fallen 1% although entrance fee revenue has gone up virtually 16%. Several of them are from outside the United states of america and love to pay a visit to the American protected lands.
Will the National Park Centennial Act to rescue our parks prior to 2016 the 100th anniversary with the National Park Service? The acts goal is always to eradicate the annual operating deficit and upkeep backlog in the nationwide parks. If it passed, it was to produce a check off box on American tax returns to fund the parks. As H.R. 1124 and S 886 it didn’t get passed in 2006. In spring of 2006 the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report about our Nationwide Parks determined by investigation, for the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee that identified that funding had not kept pace with want, requiring park managers to reduce services like, minimizing visitor center hours, educational applications, basic custodial duties, and law enforcement operations, this sort of as back-country patrolling. In addition, the park program continues to be forced to near campgrounds, shorten operating hrs, remove several interpretive programs, lay off a lot of seasonal rangers, and remove several in the parks’ scientific reports applications. So where’s the good news about our public lands? Getting an outdoor writer and avid traveler to our parks and wilderness places Bob Therrien, President of TrainingPASS Revenue, Inc. has created an outside recreation message board, he commented As I’ve visited the outdoors, the hardest portion above the years, for me continues to be the investigation about which parks, hikes, climbs, places and actions I want to visit with my loved ones and friends. Exploring federal then state web site soon after website, then mapping the distance from every single area of interest is inefficient and several instances lacking in data. To remedy that inefficiency we now have collected all of the basic information about our parks, wilderness locations and national monuments and place them into a single internet site. I don’t personally have an issue using the new park costs. It fees me more to take my loved ones to the movies.
